A dependent clause or a subordinate clause contains a subject and verb but does not express a complete thought. A dependent clause cannot be a sentence. Often a dependent clause is marked by a dependent marker word.

E.g. Whenever I get the urge to read a book, I lie down until the urge passes.

E.g. Although he was ill, he worked hard.

E.g. Her students liked her because she was very friendly.
