Language Companion Workshops are linked to content courses where students are required to read difficult texts or engage in communicatively demanding language tasks, such as complex written assignments. Focusing on the actual language employed in the prescribed readings and written assignments in those content courses, these Language Companion Workshops would comprise the following elements:
- An e-reading component (e.g. online glossaries, hyper-linked paragraph annotations, etc.) to help students understand difficult vocabulary and ideas used in the texts.
- Vocabulary exercises to help students learn how to use difficult words in the readings in similar contexts.
- Sets of guiding questions to help students paraphrase key ideas found in the texts and then synthesize them in preparation for assignments.
- Small group tutorial sessions where students would be presented with abstract questions from the module materials and assignments are discussed.
